+1 lab frog
Salutations, Omegafriends and Omegafiends! My name is Chi, and I'm bringing with me an OC named Sherrinford Holmes. He's from a race of aliens that can best be described as "sort of like Vulcans, if Vulcans were tentacle-haired frog-people and every single one of them was a mad scientist." Unlike your typical human mad scientist, however, Sherri is geared more towards the biological sciences than the technological ones. Somehow he manages to use those abilities to fight supervillainy as Dr. Telephosphor!
By day, however, he poses as a (human) clinical psychologist. Rather than being just a cover job, this is something he takes seriously and really enjoys - so if any of your characters need someone to knowingly or unknowingly talk out their deep, troubling psychological trauma with, I'd absolutely love to plot that out with you!
Lastly, my plurk is
chi_sai, but I'll be hitting up the friending meme to friend you all because yay friends. ♥

If there is a Federation in this universe, I think the Skrell Confederation would either be a member or at least be aware of its existence. My AU backstory for them is that they're essentially what the Omegaverse has instead of grey aliens, so if the Federation is particularly interested in Earth they'd be aware of Skrellian shenanigans and vice-versa.

In their original universe, Skrell are not that interested in other sentients. They did end up joining a Federation-like body, but only in the interest of supporting an alternative to the mega-corporations that were taking over the galaxy. They are socialist, so trade is not a huge motivator for them, and they were more scientifically advanced than any other (non-hostile) species.
In this AU, there are at least some factions of Skrell who are academically interested in other species - possibly in the interest of studying the phenomenon of sentience itself. While the Confederation as a whole would probably disapprove of that and thus would gladly clamp down on any Earth-based research, I'm not sure what, if anything, would drive them to join the Federation in the first place.
It's highly possible that they know about it and are on good terms with a number of Federation species but aren't members themselves.
